But in the case of this dresser, when something doesn’t look exactly how you want it to look, then you start over. This dresser was a makeover x 2. Iron Orchid Designs

Some might say that I’m addicted to Iron Orchid Designs products. They have so many neat things you can use on furniture or crafts to really create a “One of a Kind” look. Who wouldn’t be addicted to that?

At least my junk addiction has subsided….. a little bit.

When it’s cold outside, I’m not as eager to go out and look for junk. Now, if I see something as I’m driving down the road….well that’s another story.

For today, I’m going to be specifically give tips on using decor transfers on a furniture makeover, because every application is different.

So grab your favorite beverage and let’s get started.

Tips on using Iron Orchid Design Decor Transfers on Furniture!

Tip #1: Cut the decor transfers into pieces. You can even mix and match them on projects.

Tip #2: When working on furniture, only adhere decor transfers on a sealed surface. Use a top coat or wax on the furniture, then adhere the decor transfer. Be careful to choose a top coat or wax that is environmentally friendly, harsh chemicals will cause the decor transfer to lift and not adhere.

Tip #3: Use frog tape or blue tape to hold the decor transfer in place while you are scrapping.

Tip #4: When determining placement of decor transfer, don’t remove backing until you are certain of placement.

Tip #5: Decor transfers are sticky. Don’t let sticky sides touch.

Materials needed to adhere an Iron Orchid Designs Decor Transfer to furniture:

• Painted and sealed dresser. Use a top coat or wax prior to adhering the transfer. I used Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in Big Top.
• Iron Orchid Designs Decor Transfer. I used Flora Parisinesis.
• Frog Tape
• Scissors
• Soft rag

Directions to adhere an Iron Orchid Designs Decor Transfer to furniture:

Step one: Cut the decor transfer into pieces while the back is on the transfer. If you surface is flat and the exact size of the transfer, then there is no need to cut it.

Step two: Determine placement of decor transfer without removing back until you are certain of placement.

Step three: Use frog tape to hold decor transfer in place while scrapping with tool provided.

Step four: Scrape decor transfer onto surface.

Step five: Once the transfer is adhered, remove the tape and the plastic paper. Use a soft cloth and burnish decor transfer on surface. This ensures there are no air bubbles between the transfer and surface.

Step six: Use top coat or wax and seal the transfer on the surface. Two to three coats of top coat or wax is recommended.

Enjoy your finished furniture makeover.

Now go out there and create something.

Craft Pumpkins!

Today, I’m showing off my Gilded Pumpkins. Have you seen them on Instagram? I posted them a couple weeks back with the Gossip Bench Furniture Makeover I did earlier in the year. You can read about the Gossip Bench here.

Today, I’m putting the Furniture Makeover’s aside and talking about my next favorite subject…….I’m talking about Gilding!

Transformation Tuesday…Gilded Pumpkins!

My son, Troy thinks I have “Pumpkin Fever!”

Does Pumpkin Fever ever go away??? Last month I showed off how I like to Decorate with Pumpkins, and the DIY Fabric Pumpkins and now we are talking Gilded Pumpkins. What I love so much about Pumpkins is that they transition so well into Thanksgiving. Do you like to include Pumpkins in your Thanksgiving decor, leave me a comment and let me know.

I picked up some plastic pumpkins aka faux pumpkins at Walmart this past weekend. You can purchase them here. I decided to gild them and also finish off the tops with a new favorite paint brand of mine called, “Paint Effect Paste” and I used the colors Mint Green and Brass, but any colors can be used. I love how it creates a bit of texture on the tops of these pumpkins. Now let’s get to gilding.

Pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes and even textures, like fabric, wood, metal, plastic and glass.

What I love most about Gilding is that it can adhere to multiple types of surfaces. Today, I’m going to tell you how to adhere the Leaf using the Gild to a Painted Plastic Surface.

A Maker’s Studio carries 4 Colors in the Leaf: Variegated, Silver, Copper and Gold.

There are Five Easy Steps to the Gilding Process:

1. Apply Gild using a Paint Brush.
2. Wait 10 minutes for the Gild to come to tack.
3. Apply Leaf.
4. Burnish Leaf.
5. Use Dry Paint Brush to remove excess Leaf.

I think my new condition is, Gilded Pumpkin Fever!

For these cute little pumpkins I decided to not just gild each, but to also add a finish to the tops with a new favorite paint brand by Prima Marketing Inc. I’ve been partnering with Revel and teaching Craft/Art Classes in Redwood City and Belmont, California. Located right smack in the middle of the San Francisco Bay Area in California.

I loved having the boys home for Summer, and now that school is back in full swing I thought I’d share a little about what it looks like.

Hello Fall!

Luke started high school, oh my!!! He is excited about football and girls and getting into the swing of his new schedule and all the football practices. And if you are wondering….yes he is taller than me and I’m 5’9!

Oh my, when I look at the picture of him in kindergarten it brings tears to my eyes because the time has gone by so fast. Luke was and always will be a football fan! Go SF 49ers! Go Cal Bears!

Troy started Middle School and he is adjusting to different classes and staying organized and on time. He is also playing football! Go Bayside Broncos!

Back to School!

As the Summer Season comes to a close, September 23rd to be exact, I love getting ready for Fall. I’m excited for pumpkins, apple cider, hay bales, autumn nights, football, football and more football. Fall really is my favorite time of year.

Note aside: I think whatever season we are in is my favorite time of year.

When It’s Time to Re-Paint that Furniture Piece.

I was reading emails this week and ran across Sharon’s post, “When It’s Time to Re-Paint that Furniture Piece,” and it made me think of exactly what happened to this “Vintage Side Table with Magazine Holder.”

Vintage Furniture!

I picked up this Vintage Side Table with Magazine Holder a couple months back at the Good Will here in California. It was a dark walnut wood stain/color and I loved the spindle features and all of it’s character. I’m always looking for places to store my favorites books and magazines, and so I was thrilled to get the piece. I think it was an awesome price of $6.99!

I originally painted it all white with DIY Paint White Swan and then did a colorful look on the top which was similar to the Feature Wall look. You can read about the Feature Wall here and watch the video here. Although I liked the colors in the table top, I just felt like it did not go with my vibe.

After reading Sharon’s post, it was such a relief to know that I’m not the only one out there that paints a piece of furniture and then paints it again. It’s exactly what happened to my Vintage Side Table with Magazine Holder. I just couldn’t get pleasure from the first makeover.

In Sharon’s case, I don’t think she was unhappy with her project, “Coffee Station Sideboard” she just decided to do a make-over again and again and again. Read the post here. I love watching Sharon, from Australia “Breath Life Into Old Furniture,” because that is exactly what I love to do. You can check out her website here.
