Fall Decor!

There are FIVE things I use to add Fall to my home.

• Pillows
• Blankets
• Pumpkins
• Acorns, Leafs, Twigs
• Flowers

Pillows and Blankets for Fall Decorating!

I love pulling out my Fall Pillows at the end of September. Decorated Pillows and Blankets for each season are a very easy way to say hello to the new season. They are easy to stash away and use year after year. As the cool and crisp temperatures approach extra blankets are essential.

Pumpkins, Acorns, Leafs, Twigs and Flowers!

Y’all know, I love walking the pups and I also love picking up the acorns, leafs and twigs that fall to the ground. They are great scatter on your coffee table and even fun as filler for jars! Nothing says Fall more that the items that fall from the trees.

Flowers are a must in my home and if my budget is tight then picking flowers from the yard or using artificial flowers is a great option. I like to work with all three options year round.

This year, back in October, when I was at the Inspire Workshop I was inspired (ha-ha) to create a less-stressful holiday decorating plan. Check out my post Tuesday on how to transition from, “Fall Decor into Christmas Decor in my Home!” Today, I’ll give you a “DIY on Fall Trees.” Plus, I’m going to give you my “Tips on How to Create a Less Stressful Holiday Season!”

DIY on Fall Trees!

Finding an old piece of furniture makes me happy.

Ice Cream makes me happy.

But come November, I usually put the vintage furniture makeovers and ice cream eating aside and focus on decorating for the holidays and with that comes warmer desserts.

Note aside; just thinking about the warmer desserts makes me wanna do a happy dance!

The holidays make me so happy! And decorating for the holidays makes me even happier! But sometimes, it can get a little overwhelming and a little stressful.

And that my Sweet Friends, is why I’ve decided to have Fall Christmas Trees in my home. It’s like, like, the perfect holiday decorating plan.

So are you ready?

Ready for the DIY? It’s really not that difficult…

Materials needed for a DIY on Fall Trees!

1. Faux Christmas Tree with Lights (go artificial, a real tree will not last as long as you need it to.) Small Tree, Medium Tree, Large Tree or Extra Large Tree or all of the above.
2. Autumn Leaf Garland or Maple Leaf Garland
3. Individual Leaves
4. Tree Collar or Blanket
5. Scented Pinecones
6. Turkey decorations

Instructions for DIY on Fall Trees!

1. Set up your artificial Christmas Tree(s). I set up four trees in my home. Two for the buffet, one for the table and one for the Family Room.
2. Place garland around tree(s). For larger tree(s), use garland first.
3. Place individual leaves (real or faux) on tree(s). For smaller tree(s), use individual leaves only.
4. Add collars to base or a blanket on each tree.
5. Add pinecones and turkeys to the base of the tree(s) for decoration.
6. Set up your tree(s) at the beginning of November. Remove garland and leaves after Thanksgiving and decorate trees with Santas, Reindeer, Ornaments, Bows and anything else you’d like.
7. Enjoy your Less Stressful Holiday Season.

November and December holidays have always been a special time in my home. Setting up Christmas is always a huge ordeal and alot of fun. In my home, it’s not a 1-2 hour project, it’s a 1-3 day project.

Now, for my “Tips on How I Create a Less Stressful Holiday Season.”

1. Order my meats and seafood through Butcher Box. My monthly subscription box of meats is full of healthy beef, pork, chicken, salmon and more delivered right to my front door. I can go on line and edit my order at any time. When the box is delivered I can unpack it right into my freezer and have dinners available all month. I have been so pleased with the quality of meats in my Butcher Box.

1. Order my cleaning and household supplies through Grove Collaborative. Get Your FREE Holiday Mrs. Meyer’s & Grove Set with your 1st purchase of $20+. I hate grocery shopping! Remember the “Five Reasons I Hate Going to the Grocery Store?” These items get delivered right to my front door and that allows time to do other things.

1. Order my dog food through Chewy.

1. Take a supplement of Wild Harvest Holy Basil once per day, eat my protein and get a good nights rest. Holy Basil is used in Ayurvedic medicine as an “adaptogen” to counter life’s stresses. Holy Basil is literally the best $20/month I could spend on myself. After just one month of taking it I noticed a difference in how I felt. Just sayin’

In previous years passed, when I worked full time in the corporate world and had little boys running around the house, I would Christmas decorate on the weekend after Thanksgiving. I’d have three full days to decorate. Besides putting out a Cornucopia and a Wreath on the door, my Thanksgiving decor was nil to none.

This year, I’ve gone the “Less Stressful Holiday Season Route” with my “DIY Fall Trees,” and having our meats and seafood, dog food and cleaning/household supplies delivered to my home. In addition, i’m taking Holy Basil, along with my multi vitamin and feeling better than ever.

I hope the ideas, “DIY on Fall Trees” and “Tips on How to Create a Less Stressful Holiday Season!” will inspire you to go out there and have time to create something.

Pinecones in the Woods are like Starfish in the Sand.

When I see one, I get really excited and wanna do a happy dance.

I love to decorate with pinecones.

I love to put pinecones in bowls.

I love to place pinecones on mantels, and bookcases and shelves.

I even love to make cornucopia’s with pinecones.

And I especially love pinecone wreath’s wrapped around little reindeer.

Do you love pinecones?

I love to create Pinecone Wreaths. So, here is a DIY. Try it out. It’s super fun, super easy and very rewarding.

How to Create a Pinecone Wreath

Materials needed for a Pinecone Wreath:

• Floral Craft Ring – I’d suggest a floral craft ring or a embroidery hoop.  Unfortunately the Floral Craft Ring (it has holes and is thinner) I used cannot be found on the Michael’s Arts and Crafts website. An Embroidery Hoop works just fine. I found mine in the store in California.
• Pinecones – any size preferably all the same size and same color from the woods. If you’re purchasing pinecones, I’d suggest scented pinecones.
• Ribbon – approximately 1-2 inches wide by 3-4 inches in length. I choose a black and white.
• Wreath Door Hanger – if you plan to hang the wreath on your door.
• Wreath Stand – if you plan to set the wreath on your buffet or bookcase.
• Spray paint for the pinecone, just a little or alot. Gold, Silver or White is recommended. I like Rustoleum Spray Paint.
• Glue Gun
• Glue Sticks
• Brown Paint or Dark Stain to match your pinecones. I like DIY Paint Dark & Decrepit.
• Foam brush.

Instructions:

1. Take the Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop and stain or paint it to match the color of the pinecones. I used a foam brush with DIY Paint in Dark & Decrepit.
2. Take your ribbon and create a loop and attach it to the back of the Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop with your glue gun. This will be the hanger part of the pinecone wreath.
3. Paint pinecones if you’d like. You can use a spray paint for the whole pinecone or paint the tips with a paint brush. Gold, Silver or White is recommended.
4. Place the wreath form on a flat surface and lay the Pinecones onto the wreath.
5. Use a Glue Gun to adhere the pinecones to the wreath. I used Gorilla Glue Sticks.
6. Once dry, hang your Pinecone Wreath on a Wreath Door Hanger or Wreath Stand and enjoy.

Below are step by step pictures.

Take your pups or your kids or yourself on a walk and pick up pinecones. You can also visit your local craft store and buy pinecones.

Gather your supplies.

Stain or paint your Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop and let dry, approximately 30 minutes.

Heat up the Glue Gun.

On the back side attach ribbon to the Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop. Let glue dry then turn face up.

Lay the pinecones onto the Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop.

Add glue to the back of each pinecone and place on the Floral Craft Ring or Embroidery Hoop.

Use the ribbon to hang your Pinecone Wreath.

Enjoy your Pinecone Wreath.

Now go out there and create something beautiful.

This year, I went simple with my Front Door Halloween Decor. I created two fun Halloween signs using old wood, paint and Essential Stencils. I also used cobwebs and spiders and created a cute little “Boo” Wreath.

Halloween Decor!

I love the Halloween holiday, but have never really gotten into the spooky, ghoulish, bloody side of Halloween. My decor is usually about pumpkins, cats, witches and some spiders and cobwebs.

The Halloween Stencil from Essential Stencils allows you to create a multitude of signs to your liking. The stencil comes in five pieces and includes not just the saying “Happy Halloween” but also a pumpkin, cat and bats.

I made the Boo and Spider Wreath a couple years back and thought it fit nicely with my front door decor.

My Neighbor had this cute “Home Sweet Home” Sign up on her front door.

And another neighbor, obviously with children in her home, put out this cute sign.

For this project you will need:

• Faux Pumpkins – if you don’t have any on hand, check out the Dollar Store.
• Rustoleum’s Painter’s Touch 2x Ultra Cover Satin Spray, Satin Aqua.
• Iron Orchid Design Decor Stamp in Rose Toile
• Iron Orchid Design Ink in White
• Iron Orchid Design Stamp Pad
• Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in Layered Chocolate
• Paint Brush

Here’s the quick and easy diy with photos included!

• Add ink to pad. I prefer to purchase a stamp pad for each color I’m using. A few drops of ink is all you need.
• Apply pad to stamp. Test stamp on paper first to ensure you have not applied to much ink to the stamp.
• Stamp pumpkins. Once you have placed the inked stamp on surface, hold with one hand and tickle stamp with the other hand. Do not shift.
• Paint stems with Brown Paint using Paint Brush.

I thought it would be fun to do a little Faux Pumpkin Makeover!

Blue Pumpkins!

Today I’m going to show you how you can take some ordinary Faux Pumpkins and make them extraordinary!

note aside: the orange pumpkins against the white hydrangeas are really lovely…..but I’ve got Pumpkin Fever and me and orange aren’t getting along lately!

You probably didn’t know that my favorite color is blue.

Not just any blue, I prefer the light turquoise blue.

Yes, the color that is on my logo.

Faux Pumpkin Decorating Ideas!

And yes, I decided to paint some Pumpkins blue.

And that my Sweet Friends, is what you call Pumpkin Fever!

And boy did I get lucky when Rustoleum wanted to partner with me on a project. Immediately I knew the color I wanted to pick…Satin Aqua.

Rustoleum’s Painter’s Touch is a 2x Ultra Cover Satin Spray. The Satin Aqua, in my opinion, is a cross between a baby blue and a turquoise.

For these Faux Pumpkins and Gourds, I sprayed two coats of Rustoleum’s Painter’s Touch onto the Pumpkins and Gourds. I was able to get great coverage with two coats. Be sure to read the directions on the can before starting.

The pumpkins came out so pretty that I decided to admire them for a few days until…
