This week is all about Red, White and Blue!  It started this weekend and has continued on through the week.  Tuesday, I showed off my Patriotic Wreath for the Pinterest Challenge. Patriotic Decorations!

May, June, July and August make me think of Flags, Stars and Stripes, Let Freedom Ring, Est. 1776 and USA sprinkled with everything Red, White and Blue. If you’ve been following me for more than a minute you know I love decorating for the seasons.

Last year I made these super simple signs using Chalk Art and Stencils.

We are half way through June and the 4th of July will be here before you know it.  School is out and summer has began and it’s time to start the party!

Let’s Go On Adventures Together!

It’s exciting to go on an Adventure. Whether you are riding your bicycle, hiking the mountains, kayaking at the lake, adventures are something to look forward to.

This weekend, my son Troy and I went to our normal spot for a hike with the pups. This hike became an adventure in itself. Normally on our hikes, Troy and I look for birds and lizards and they are not hard to find.

Let’s Go On Adventures Together!

This normal hike was different. What we saw at the Open Space Preserve surprised us. We saw 100’s of goats, fenced into a spot at the beginning of the preserve.

Our normal hike became an adventure that we never expected. On our normal hike we would not see goats eating grass. Normally we are looking for lizards and birds. Sofy loves to chase the lizards and birds.

On this adventure we saw over a hundred goats and they were fenced in with an electrical fence. The goats were happily eating the grass. Some just stared at us as we walked by. We even saw a goat that looked to be pregnant.

This pillow sits on one of my chairs and reminds me of adventures I have taken. One of the adventures it reminds me of is last summer when I kayaked in Northern California. I love being reminded of times I have taken for myself.

Here are some other projects where I’ve used Gel Art Inks and Essential Stencils. I’ve stenciled “Kitchen Towels with Gel Art Inks and Essential Stencils.” I created one of a kind pillows for my home, like I did on this pillow here. Handkerchiefs are fun to customize with Gel Art Inks, like I did here.

Now let’s get onto this pillow tutorial.

MATERIALS NEEDED TO CREATE A STENCILED PILLOW:

1. Stencil by Essential Stencils
2. Gel Art Ink products by A Maker’s Studio.
3. Stencil Brushes by Essential Stencils
4. Pillow Cover

DIRECTIONS FOR CREATING A STENCILED SIGN:

Step one: Gather your materials.

Step two: Prepare your pillow cover by ironing it.

Step three: Insert a piece of parchment paper or cardboard inside the pillow cover. This will ensure that the ink will not leak through the back.

Step four: Use Frog Tape to adhere stencil to surface.

Step five: Use Stencil Brushes with Gel Art Inks.

Step six: Swirl or Pounce paint onto surface. Either stenciling technique; Swirling or Pouncing, works well. I have a video on You Tube for each. 

Step seven: Remove frog tape and stencil.

Step eight: Heat set Gel Art Ink into fabric. Place a thin towel over the pillow and iron fabric on 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes.

Tip: If you’d like to wash your pillow cover, turn pillow cover inside out and wash in cold water. Do not place the pillow cover in the iron.

Starting this website was a long time dream in the making.  Motherhood kept me so busy for many years and still does today.  But Luke and Troy are only 15 and 12, but much more independent every day.  I am so honored to be there Mom. Back in July of 2018 when I finally took the plunge and went full in on Create With Cynthia it was a scary, but a very exciting dream come true.

Today is all about stenciling Sweet Friends. Stenciling is on of my favorite craft projects. I’ve done this stencil project for my Laundry Room and this stencil project on a Furniture Makeover and this stencil project for my Front Porch and I could go on and on. Stencils add so much one of a kind character to home decor. Today, I’m talking about the Master Bedroom as it really was in need of a little bit of love.

Stenciling Techniques for any Surface!

My Master Bedroom has been pretty neglected up until last week when I realized I was a desk short in my home. When the Pandemic of 2020 struck in early March and schools went to eLearning, desk space in our home became an issue. You can read about how I created a “Morning Routine during Quarantine” and more desk space out of shear desperation.

Back in February I wrote a post about “What Does February Remind You of and a Bit of Gratefulness.” I was feeling extra happy about the month of February and all the love, Valentine’s Day, Ski Week, etc.

Essential Stencils are a heavy duty and reusable mylar material. The designs are so cute and there are so many to choose from. Stencils can be used on Wood and Metal and Fabric and even Glass.

There are a variety of different techniques when using Stencils and on this project I’m using the Swirling Technique. Check out the video here.

MATERIALS NEEDED TO MAKE A STENCILED SIGN:

1. Stencil by Essential Stencils
2. Paint products by Debi’s Design Diary DIY. I used White Swan and Little Black Dress with Big Top Top Coat. The frame was sealed with Dark and Decrepit. 
3. Stencil Brushes by Essential Stencils
4. Any surface

DIRECTIONS FOR CREATING A STENCILED SIGN:

1. Gather your materials.
2. Paint your surface.
3. Use Frog Tape to adhere stencil to surface.
4. Use Stencil Brushes with paint.
5. Swirl or Pounce paint onto surface. Either stenciling technique; Swirling or Pouncing, works well. I have a video on You Tube for each.
6. Remove frog tape and stencil.
7. Wash stencil in warm soapy water.
8. Apply top coat to surface.
