December has been full of fun Christmas decorating and DIY’s. The Tablescape Blog Hop happened at the beginning of December and I showed off my “Nutcracker Christmas Table Decor!”

But with that being said, I have a question for you all? Do you ever eat a piece of pumpkin pie without wipe cream?

“Of course not!” I hear you saying.

Then, I ask, “Why would you decorate your table and not your chairs?”

Every chair needs to be decorated, especially on special occasions and when the table is all decked out. It’s kinda like pie ala mode. You can’t have pie without ice cream, right?

In today’s post I’m going to show you how I created these Christmas Greenery Star’s for the back of my dining room chairs. Of course, the stars can be used in many places and adorned with many things.

At the beginning of December I showed you how I decorated my Front Door, Front Door Holiday Decor and Five things Needed to Decorate the Front Door.

Then, I joined a bunch of friendly bloggers on a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop and showed off my Nutcracker Christmas Table Decor. I received so many comments on how my nutcracker story brought back memories for many and my Christmas Stars reminded them of the Star of David.

The stars were such a hit, I thought I’d take a moment to show you how I created the Christmas Greenery Star’s for the back of my chairs.

Just like in previous projects, like the “Faux Fur Ribbon Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornaments,” I say, use what you have.

Materials for Christmas Greenery Stars:

1. Garland or Greenery Sticks

2. Sheet Music Paper

3. Twine

4. Scissors

5. Ribbon

Instructions for Christmas Greenery Stars:

Step one: If you can’t find greenery sticks at the craft store, just take a large piece of garland and cut it into pieces. I used six pieces for each star. Each piece was one foot long. If you are making four stars you need 24 pieces of 1 foot long greenery.

Step two: Twist the end of two pieces of garland together to get started.

Step three: Take your third piece of garland and create the first triangle of your star.

Step four: Intertwine each triangle together so they hold together better.

Step five: Once the triangle is complete, use ribbon to accent the Christmas Greenery Star.

Step six: use the ribbon to attach the star to the chair and tie it into a beautiful bow.

Step seven: Adorn your Christmas Greenery Star with whatever your’d like. Music sheets were appropriate for my table cape theme. Roll each up and hold it together with twine. The music sheets accented the Christmas Greenery Star.

Christmas Greenery Stars add a lovely touch to the back of chairs, a wall or a door. The star can be adorned with whatever theme you are after, ribbon, bells, holly, etc. Have fun and make the Christmas Greenery Star match your own home decor. The possibilities are endless.

Just remember, pumpkin pie needs wipe cream, just like your table chairs need decorations.

My Christmas Trees are decorated and I love how they turned out. I created some super easy and cute Yarn Garland and even a Faux Fireplace and wanted to show it off.

But before I get to the garland, don’t you just love the stockings? They are knit and so soft and comfy looking. No wonder they are made from yarn.

When I saw the stockings, I knew I needed a fireplace mantel to hang them on. My home lacks a fireplace, which is a bummer, but….. it is what it is! When the holiday’s started approaching, I decided to create a faux fireplace out of this old twin metal headboard.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicolas soon would be there. I was sort of wondering if my 14 year old son, Luke would ask me how Santa might get in…..

Well with no fireplace, how would Santa get in?

A few years back, when we lived in our old house with a fireplace, Luke asked about Santa coming through the chimney. “Mommy, Luke said, how will Santa get out of the fireplace if you don’t move all the packages?” If my memory serves correctly, Luke was about 8 years old.

Boys…..

The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.

Even though Luke is older now, I know he still believes.

My boys and I have always had a tradition of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa and his Reindeer. I had the urge to create the faux fireplace not just for the stockings….

Remember last year when I had five Christmas trees at the Woodland Paradise? You can read about it here.  That was a lot of work and this year I knew I wanted an easier and less stressful Christmas.  That’s why I started with “Tips on How to Create a Less Stressful Holiday Season and a DIY on Fall Trees”. The Fall Trees have now been decked out with yarn garland and bulbs and stars and icicles and I’m loving the warm, soft neutrals on my tree.  It sure creates a soft and comfy look.

This year I have two Christmas Trees, one in my main family room and one in the entrance way. I love coming home, because the first thing I see is the beautiful tree with the yarn garland.

It’s full of stars and bulbs and icicles and knit garland. My Grandmother loved to knit. Unfortunately, Grandma Flo died when I was ten years old and so she never taught me how to knit. Years ago, I took up looming instead. Looming allows you to make scarves and hats using yarn. It’s similar to knitting, just a lot easier.

I love how yarn comes in all colors and a variety of textures. Nowadays, you can even find thick and chunky yarn. I used a thick and chunky yarn on my “Yarn Christmas Trees” and had a bunch left over.

For this yarn garland I chose a a few thick chunky white yarn types, a thin grey yarn, a gold colored yarn and I also used a thick twine. The opportunities are endless.

Of course, I didn’t have to go to the craft store because I already had a ton of yarn hanging around from my looming days.

I think the Yarn Garland looks awesome.

I was all over Pinterest a few weeks ago looking for inspiration on a themed Christmas look and decided on a warm, soft and neutral look.

The yarn garland was the first thing I created for my trees. You can check out the tutorial below.

Materials for the Yarn Garland:

• Yarn, 3-6 different types of yarn. Choose different colors and textures for an optimal look. I chose 6 different types/ textures of yarn in a variety of neutral colors.

• Scissors

Instructions for the Yarn Garland:

1. Cut each piece of yarn 5-6 feet in length.
2. Tie yarn together at one end.
3. Place knotted end of yarn on something to hold it into place. I used a door and also a set of dishes. Anything strong enough to hold the yarn end in place.
4. Braid remaining yarn. I doubled up my yarn as I had six different types. When braiding, some areas can be loose and some areas can be tight. Mostly keep the braid loose.
5. After braiding is complete, tie a knot on the end.
6. Enjoy your yarn garland by placing it around your tree.

I’ve been crafting alot. I’ve been making wreaths and garland and ornaments and Christmas Trees and it’s been so fun and so easy. Decorating your home doesn’t have to be difficult, take alot of time or cost a lot of money!

Craft Christmas Trees!

I love Christmas Trees!!! I mentioned it last week when I showed off my Mason Jar Lid Christmas Trees. Today I’m showing off my newest Christmas Tree, Yarn Christmas Trees. This DIY is so simple and inexpensive and doesn’t take long at all.

Materials needed for the Yarn Christmas Trees:

• Cones come in various colors, sizes and material type. I’d suggest using the FloraCraft Styrofoam Cone in White, 12 inch, 9 inch and 6 inch

• Yarn – I used the thickest yarn I could find.

• Glue Gun

• Glue Sticks

• Scissors

I had all of the items in my craft closet from prior projects. I placed links for each item above from Michael’s Arts and Crafts so you could easily replicate the project. Don’t forget to use your coupon.

Instructions for creating Yarn Christmas Trees:

1. Starting at the bottom of the cone, wrap yarn slowly around the cone adding glue as you go.
2. Push the yarn together as you are wrapping the yarn around the cone so there are no gaps. Be careful as the glue is hot.
3. When you reach the top of the cone, cut the yarn extra long and tuck under at the top.

I chose to make three Christmas Trees. You can always just make one Christmas Tree but for a bigger impact i’d suggest creating three, five or even seven. Think about your space and what would work well. Enjoy your Christmas Trees!

For this project I had three cones that I had purchased years ago for a project. Reusing is always my preference, but if you don’t have cones at home, I’d suggest purchasing the cone that is the color of your yarn, if possible.

Covering your cone is an optional step. I covered my cones because I was unsure whether or not the green cone would show through, as well as, I wanted to reuse my cone. I can now easily slide the paper cover off the cone. Then I can reuse the cone for another project later. This idea saves on cost and storage!
