Fall Favorites!

I have been so busy with Furniture Makeovers that I have been neglecting all of the “Fall Crafts” on my project list. Last Fall, I had so much fun crafting using A Maker’s Studio products like the Chalk Art and Copper, Variegated and Silver Leaf. You can check out, one of my very first set of videos that show you how to use the Leaf, “Restoring Thrift Store Items…” There are 5 videos in the series and you can check them here and here and here and here and here.

Note aside; As I was watching this video I felt myself sinking in my seat. Were my videos really that bad when I first started?!?!!!

Fall, Fall and more Fall!

Last week I hit a HUGE milestone in my life! I turned 50, gracious goodness. Life is so good! Honestly though, the milestone is just an example of how my life is full of learning and growing exponentially! These video’s and the quote, “Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.” by Napoleon Hill, are just an example of learning and growing!

Restoring Thrift Store Items Video Series

I love to restore thrift store items, as it allows me to craft a beautiful life.  Being a Difference Maker and enjoying the bragging rights is what I love to do.

A Maker’s Studio Launch

The Launch of A Maker’s Sudio Products was a huge celebration. I met so many amazing women and heard some very inspirational speakers. 

I felt so blessed to be invited to Amy and Gene Howard’s home.  The picture above was Amy and I at the beginning of the launch.  Below are me and other Maker’s enjoy a fabulous time getting to know each other.

Restoring Thrift Store Items (next steps)

Once you clean your piece with furniture polish, you can paint with the Rescue and Restore Paint, no other prep is needed. In fact, A Maker’s Studio has a variety of Sealer’s, Waxes and Stains that can be used over the paint but none are required. The Rescue and Restore Paint has a built-in Sealer.

Once your piece has been painted the real fun begins. I love stenciling or gilding and today is all about gilding!

There are only three steps to Gilding:

1. Find your piece and apply the Gilding Size and let it sit for about ten minutes so the Gilding can come to Tack.
2. Apply the Leaf. A Maker’s Studio carries Gold, Silver, Copper and Variegated Copper. When applying the Leaf you should rub it into the piece which is a process called burnishing. The dictionary says, burnish means to polish something by rubbing.
3. Final step is the take a Chip Brush and Brush the piece to remove the remaining Leaf that has not adhered with the Tack.

Not only can anything be gilded; wood, fabric, metal, glass, hardware, etc. but gilding can be used with our Adhesive Stencils as well.

Restoring Thrift Store Items Video Series

I love finding something to refurbish, searching for the right color and then selecting how I want to finish it off.  If you’d like to read about Day 1 and Day 2 click here.

Waxes, Sealers, Glazes and Gel Stains Finish a Project Nicely

Sealers, Waxes, Gel Stains, and Glazes are just a few of the ways that you can finish off a refurbished item. A Maker’s Studio has so many options.  This round coffee table in the photo above I used Rescue and Restore Paint Blessed and finished it off with the Light Antiquing Wax.  You can shop my website for these products.

Sealers are great to be used over the Rescue and Restore paint and provide a heavy duty sealer surface on items that get dirty quickly.  The Matte Sealer by A Maker’s Studio goes on as a white but dries clear.  Usually two to three coats is recommended.

Restoring Thrift Store Items

A Maker’s Studio carries Embellishing Wax in Gold, Silver and Copper and can be purchased here.  Another option is the Antiquing Wax in Light or Dark and the Cerusing Wax.  These products can be purchased here. The Cerusing Wax is best used over a color other than white.  

Gel Stains are water based and smell incredible with the essential oils that are added.  They come in the following colors: Auburn Mahogany, Windsor Grey, Kensington Black, Antique Pine, English Walnut and Hazel Mahogany.  Which is your favorite color?  They can be purchased here.
