Do-It-Yourself Wine Charms!

Are you looking for a one of a kind gift idea? Wine Charms are such a cute addition to wine glasses! During these days of social distancing and germs being such a high concern, wine charms are the perfect way to ensure you pick up the correct glass. Wine Charms paired with some wine glasses and a bottle of bubbly is the perfect gift for any occasion. I am sure your Dad will love it.

DIY Wine Charms!

Wine charms are so easy and fun to make and I am going to show you how. On this project I am using products I sell at my online store, Create With Cynthia Shop. You can visit my online store here.

Clay is so fun to work with and I have made many things with clay like this Mermaid Mobile and this Angel Art and this Furniture Makeover.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE WINE CHARMS WITH CLAY AND MOULDS:

• Air Dry Clay
• Decor Moulds
• DIY Paint
• Putty Knife
• Wine Charms
• Paint Brushes

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CREATE WINE CHARMS WITH CLAY AND MOULDS.

Step one: After you have gathered your supplies, start by seasoning your mould with Corn Starch. Use an old paint brush and spread corn starch inside the mould. Shake out any excess.

Step two: Use your scraper to cut a piece of clay from the chunk of Air Dry Clay. 

Step three: Roll clay into a ball and press into the mould.

Step four: Use scrapper and remove excess clay from mould. The micro rim will assist in ensuring a flat surface on the back of the mould.

Step five: Once you have pressed clay inside mould, turn mould upside down and let gravity remove the clay from the mould.

Step six: Once your moulds are created and before each mould has dried stick the charm into mould to create a hole. You can also use a toothpick.

Step seven: Paint your moulds. I removed the charm prior to painting

Step eight: Seal your paint with a top coat or wax.

Step nine: Put wine charms back into moulds and adorn your glassware.

Telephone Bench

Vintage anything makes me happy.  When I am on the hunt for a new piece of furniture and I find a Vintage Gossip Bench, it’s like a Friday for me!

If you didn’t read my post months back about the Vintage Gossip Bench, you can read it here.  That bench sold at TreasureFest in April and although I was slightly bummed to let it go, I was thrilled it would be in a new home where it could be treasured and appreciated.

Shortly after, I spotted a new bench on FB Marketplace!

For this bench I played around with color-mixing of DIY Paint and came up with this new color I created and named “Golden Burlap”.

The awesome aspect to DIY Paint is that the chalk and clay components allow you to mix and blend the paint.  I painted the legs in the Golden Burlap and the other part of the bench in Faded Burlap.

The bench is for sale and you can visit my store in Redwood City to purchase it or send me a message through Facebook or Instagram.

Painted Furniture using Iron Orchid Designs!

As you know, I am now a Retailer for Iron Orchid Designs, and on this cabinet I added a Decor Transfer.

Iron Orchid Design Decor Transfer!

Adding “Decor Transfers” on furniture really add a huge impact. I picked up this piece at the Goodwill and instantly knew a “decor transfer” would be perfect.

The original piece was all black. I started by adding a coat of DIY Paint in Marquee and then DIY Paint in White Swan. Some spots needed two coats of the DIY White Swan, and I painted in a non-uniform way and distressed it for a textured look. Distressing DIY Paint is super easy with a wet cloth, or, you can use a sand block.

After the piece was painted, I sealed it with DIY Big Top and then applied the Iron Orchid Design Decor Transfer, Catalogue of Roses 24×33 Paintable Decor Transfer. These decor transfers are paintable but I like the black and white look.

TreasureFest in the San Francisco Bay Area!

Many of you have little children at home, just as I did (mine really aren’t that little anymore)! This is a great video on You Tube that introduces the little ones or big ones, in your life to painting. Check out Dionne’s channel here.

You’ll notice that she also teaches classes on painting canvases and furniture. Now you get why I am attracted to her videos.

I followed along on Saturday, February 23rd’s version of Lil Ms. Iris and painted the ocean on canvas. It was a really fun process and I wanted to share it with you. Here is my final project.

Dionne and Iris paint every Saturday morning, but you can always go back and watch the videos at your leisure.

Even though my boys are grown I still strive to teach and show them the importance of art in their live.

Any paint can be used, but I like using a water soluble paint that contains no VOC’s. For this project I used DIY Chalk Paint by Debi’s Design Diary. You also need a squirt bottle and a canvas. You can use a brush or your fingers. Add paint, spray the canvas and turn the canvas, it’s really that simple and fun. Here is a picture half way through of my process. Can you see how the paint is dripping.
