I know Valentine’s Day was last week, Sweet Friends, but I’ve got Spring on my mind? Do you have Spring Fever? I am so ready for the warm weather and spring flowers. This California girl is sick of the winter!

Remember last month, when I joined the Pinterest Organization Challenge and created my “Old Ladder Turned Bathroom Storage Idea!”
Well this month the Pinterest Challenge is Spring Crafts/DIY Projects! Right up my alley! A big thanks to Erlene at My Pinterventures. Erlene is our leader for this monthly series, so please be sure to check out her blog…it is full of great stuff.

Pinterest Challenge – Spring/Craft DIY!
In case you’re new to the blog, the purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month’s challenge is about Spring Crafts/DIY Projects, so I chose Spring Decor Spindle Carrots.
Today, I’m joining a bunch of Bloggers on a Pinterest Spring Crafts/DIY Project. I went searching on Pinterest to look for Spring Crafts/DIY Project ideas and I was inspired by this pin. Susan from HomeRoad created carrots using old spindles. I love repurposing, as y’all know. And if you’ve been reading along for even a second you know how I feel about spindles. It motivated me to turn my old spindles into carrots. The perfect Spring Craft/DIY Project!

Upcycling Spindles into Carrots!
I haven’t done much with garlands, like Susan from HomeRoad has with her Spindle Carrots, but I plan to use these Spindle Carrots on my Spring Table, possibly on my upcoming Tablescape Blog Hop, and maybe even my mantel.

What do you think?
If you’ve not been following, You should go back and check out my Spindle Christmas Tree and my Heart Spindle Artwork. I’m a little crazy for spindles these days!
Spindle Carrot DIY!
Now, grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s get started with the tutorial on “How to Make Spindle Carrots.”

Materials needed to make the Spindle Leg Carrots:
- Spindles, I had some old ones on hand, but you can purchase them online, just click here or here or here.
- Orange and Brown colored paint – I used Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in the color Summer Crush and Layered Chocolate.
- Sealer and/ or Wax – I used a Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint in Big Top and then a Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint Dark Wax.
- Paint Brush – I used chip brushes. You can purchase them here or here.
- Greenery – I picked up some Onion Grass from the Dollar Store, but if you’d rather order your greenery online just click here.
- Floral Tape
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Wire Cutters

Instructions for how to make the Spindle Carrots:
Step one: Gather your spindle legs. I used three short spindle legs and six short wooden dowel sticks and an old table leg. Varying lengths and odd numbers work best. You may need to cut your old table legs to create the perfect size or just purchase spindles online using the links above.

Step two: Paint your spindles. The body of the spindle should be orange and the top brown.

Step three: Seal or Wax your paint. You can use a clear wax and then a dark wax. There are many options. The key is to get the darkness into the crevices so the carrots look a little dirty. I wanted my carrots to look like they just came from the ground.

When using clear and dark wax a brush on/ brush off technique is usually best.

Step four: Cut your greener to the correct size. My greenery also had butterflies on it.

Step five: Glue the greenery on the top of the spindle. You may need to use Floral Tape to hold the glue and greenery in place.

Step six: Enjoy your Spindle Carrots. Decorate with them on your mantle, table, or in a basket.
I hope you enjoy this project. It is fairly easy and super fun!
