Painting my son, Troy‘s room, became more of an ordeal than I had hoped for. Remember the rug…

Most would probably call me a lazy painter. If I was smart, I’d hire someone but I’m too cheap to do that because I know I can do it myself.
The ordeal happened why?
Because I hate the prep work. I get all excited once I have the paint in hand and jump right in. I’m not good at doing the prep work and getting the room prepared properly. Then when I tackle the paint job…it’s an ordeal.
So my first attempt, became a struggle because we did not like the color of the accent wall nor did it match the rug. And I made a huge mess because I did not properly prepare.
I took a week off from painting and re-started the process correctly. I set the room up for preparing to paint. This is what a properly prepared room looks like. Cover all areas with drop cloths and you’ll notice in the closet area, I did not blue tape off the closet before taking the photo. Blue tape all areas to ensure straight lines.
Crazy thing….
I was able to paint the room (second coat and touch/ ups) in one day.
Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you the paint I chose. Now keep in mind my style is Farmhouse style with a bit of Rustic, Antique influence. Dunn Edwards paint store is walking distance from my place so I chose this brand.
The walls are soooo old I wasn’t that concerned with the brand or sheen of paint. I just chose the whitest white and Industrial Age for the accent wall.
The Burlap curtains block much of the light coming into the room, which is important so that Troy can get a good nights sleep. White walls allowed the space to feel bright and larger. The Industrial Age on one wall added a pop of color without making the room appear too dark. It matched the rug very well.
Take a look and let me know what you think? Please-please provide a comment. As a newbie blogger, I really need to hear what y’all think. The picture below was taken at night and so it’s a little on the dark side.
The cute blue stripped pillow above, I purchased from a new blogger I have been following, Farmhouse on Boone.
Stay tuned for some simple DIY’s that I conjured up for the room.
Have a great week. Look forward to hearing from you!
