Hey there Sweet Friends, today on the blog, I am sharing about a new piece of furniture I picked up on Facebook Marketplace.  A Vintage Gossip Bench… and believe me, I could not get to the owner fast enough.

The Vintage Gossip Bench, which is an item that dates back to the 1930’s, sat in my family room for a couple of weeks why I Ga-Ga’ed over it.

Ga-Ga, Ga-Ga, Ga-Ga….I was, “in looooooovvvvvveeeeeee.”

Vintage furniture, oh-my!

Wikipedia defines a gossip bench as a piece of furniture that includes a chair with an attached side table.  Is it possible to be in love with a piece of furniture?

Friends visited my Woodland Paradise and said, “Oh my Cynthia, that is a beauty.  What are you planning to do with that!”  Woodland Paradise…will be discussed in a few weeks.

Back to the Vintage Gossip Bench…

When friends asked what my plan was for the Gossip Bench, my reply was, “I don’t know!”

After much thought I decided to head over to Brentwood, as it is the closest Retailer of DIY Chalk Paint. There is a store in Brentwood called “Consignment Envy” and they carry all kinds of beautiful furniture pieces, as well as, a whole wall of DIY Chalk Paint and IOD Decor Transfers.  I really like DIY Chalk Paint because it is a one, sometimes two, coat paint product, can be distressed with a damp cloth and contains no VOC’s and sometimes, I just want to paint with true “Chalk Paint.”

At Consignment Envy, I went a little crazy.  Below is a screen shot of the store, just in case you are crazy for diy chalk paint too.

I’m sure you can imagine…

Blonde lady + store + DIY Chalk Paint + IOD Decor Transfers = ccccrrrrazzzy.

So I grabbed a couple cans of Marquee, a couple cans of Fancy Farmgirl and too many IOD Decor Transfers and headed out.  Red and Green seemed the perfect colors since December is right around the corner.  I also thought that if I kept the Gossip Bench it would work well in the boys room upstairs and Red would be a perfect color for their room.  You can read about their room makeover here.

It was a long drive.  But since Brentwood is half way to my parents home, it was kind a no-brainer!  The IOD Decor Transfers turn into a beautiful piece of art for your home or office.  You can read about my space where I carry them here.

The drive was long, but parts of the drive were beautiful, like this barn I passed.  I would have loved to go inside and steal some of that barn wood, but I just kept on driving.

This past weekend, I finally took the plunge and opened up the Red Marquee, dipped the brush in the can and onto the Vintage Gossip Bench it went.

Of course, you all know, I am a Maker Boss for A Maker’s Studio, so I started with the A Maker’s Studio Furniture Cleaner, then two coats of Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint and finished the project with A Maker’s Studio Light and Dark Antiquing Wax.  You can read about my launch post here.

I wanted darkness in the crevices and spindle legs, hence the Dark Antiquing Wax.  I do recommend always using the Light Antiquing Wax first, then the Dark Antiquing Wax as a second coat or where you want to add darkness.

The Vintage Gossip Bench is headed to my space in Redwood City and will also be on my website.  If your local, I hope you’ll stop by and do a little holiday shopping.

And here is what y’all have been waiting to see.

Have a great day, Sweet Friends.  Let me know if you like the color Marquee?
